To Anti foul or scrub regularly?

What advantages does anti fouling have?Surely a lift and scrub when it gets too furry would suffice.My boat was in all year ,not freshly antifouled prior,and only has a bit of slime and minimal fur.Do you recon a trip to the cowes boatscrub would suffice every now and then?

Antifouling may be expensive and fall a long way short of what one would like it to do but it does reduce the amount of scrubbing necessary, but if it is to be antifouled and scrubbed periodically then you will need a hard type AF.

This year my boat came out cleaner than it has ever done in the past 30 years, without the usual layer of barnacles and not much weed either. Nothing special about the AF. IIRC I used what was left from a previous year and a very old tin of something that had been sitting on the garage shelf for a decade or more (no it was not TBT!)

I think the particularly poor summer did not help the usual multiplication of little nasties. That may have a lot to do with the lack of growth, which seems apparent in Langstone Harbour too.
