I have an aggravating - as intermittent- electrical fault affecting the Port engine panel.
The OP gauge falls to 0, the Water Temp goes to Max and the Fuel gauge reads 1/2 instead of Full. After a short time it all returns to normal. The alarm on that panel is sometimes faint sounding.
I am assuming there is a poor connection somewhere but where to start looking??
Is an earth fault more likely?
It did it once early last season but had been fine until yesterday.
Any suggestions will be gratefully received. TIA

Most likely an earth fault I would say.
Best to trace each black wire coming from your panel cluster, and see where they go.
Check each connector and joint and wiggle them round. Visually inspect for corrosion.
Trace all the way back to the main earth block.

This may sound tedious but if you apply a methodical approach you'll usually find a fairly obvious problem.

Also check that you have a stable 12v on the blue/red wire which comes from the ignition switch and is the power supply to all the gauges and the alarm module.

Thanks for replies, sorry I have not been back but have been laid up with a nasty chest infection, now improving. I think after careful studying of the wiring diagram and some reading I at least understand how it ought to work, and as you say it is just a systematic flog through all the connections to try and find a dodgy one. I just hope it is not one of the large multi way sockets in the main looms that is failing.
