Thank you for notifying the forum of this special offer for new members signing up between now and 31st March.
Boaters of all flavours really do need to wake up to the serious implications of the continuing funding crisis affecting the non tidal river. We will shortly receive more detailed proposals from the EA regarding registration charges for a new 5 year plan starting from 2021 and there will be an opportunity for all boaters and others using the river to engage in the associated consultation. Frankly, it is difficult to see how we can avoid a “more of the same” approach - I.e further significant increases in charges accompanied by continuing reductions in service levels. Although river user representatives work hard to try and preserve boaters interests it is a sad fact that we, collectively, lack the real support of the vast majority of those paying registration charges. It is rather difficult to bang tables when we are told that the majority must be happy as they do not complain - the last formal survey suggested that less than 30% of boaters belonged to any river based organisation or representative body.
The ATYC represents its member clubs and the TMBA exists to represent the interests of individual powered craft boaters. The cost of membership is minimal - £30 a year for an ATYC Club and just £5 p.a. For individual membership of TMBA.
Both organisations would really appreciate your support and that is all that the TMBA asks for - no fears of being asked to join a committee or undertake any other commitment than simply demonstrate your support by paying a minimal subscription and, if you choose, displaying our membership sticker on your boat. We operate as an online association and our expenses are also minimal. And, unlike some of those “new customers only” offers our existing members will also be enjoying similar benefit for this coming year.
We wish all of you a healthy, prosperous and boatiful New Year !
