The Thames MotorBoaters Association move to subscription membership is well advanced and many existing members have already opted to pay the small subscription to become paid up members. At the end of November the TMBA will move to formalise its management and only paid up members will be eligible to participate in the nomination and election process.

The TMBA is solely dedicated to promoting, and protecting, the interests of motor boaters on the non tidal Thames.

Unlike any other organisation, every single member is an EA Thames licence holder. The strength of our membership offers an opportunity to present the EA with the views and concerns of the group of river users that provide the largest single revenue contribution to the management of the river.

The future of navigation charges will come under major review during the coming year and it is essential that we, as a user group, are able to demonstrate strength, in both numbers and argument, in support of our interests.

If you are not already a paid up member please support us - your £5 subscription will help to defray costs, but your voice and your VOTE is invaluable.

Glad to see things are moving along with TMBA.
There will be no excuse soon for the group not to take its place alongside other certain "organisations".

"an identity card"...with something written on the back or words to the effect.......

That the " Bearer of this card shall be entitled to an evening of free drinks at any yacht club in the known universe." and further to chat up any attractive bar staff without let or hinderance until they (the bearer) fall over .
Ps.The bearer of this card also reserves the right to tell off colour jokes at inappropiate times in a loud voice !

A welcome email would have been nice.
There was one - but very terse and now changed to be more friendly. You will also have received a direct email from the Nochex payment service acknowledging the subscription payment.
I admin for the TMBA single handed, and do have other things going on in my sad life, so please don't be surprised if it sometimes takes a few days to get a response. I will only acknowledge and confirm membership when the subscription has been received which can also take a day or two.

I gave in mind an enamel badge, a nice sewn burgee, an identity card, leather bound rule book, card badge, lastly legal representation for any boating related incidents.
We are NOT a club so all the niceties you suggest ain't going to happen. In return for your fiver you get that really nice warm feeling inside of being a good person that cares about the Thames and the interests of motor boaters.

A burgee I will consider - well, maybe a rectangular flag to make us look different. But they are at least £15 each and minimum order quantities are needed to get down to that price. Something for later once the current procedures are complete and membership grows to the sort of numbers that will support the expenditure.

I am concerned that this forum should not be used as a place for discussing internal TMBA matters.
I have just added a Viewpoint area to the TMBA website - www.tmba.org.uk/viewpoint - where members can raise issues and post comment about our activities and interest. For the time being I will leave this publicly visible but it may become a members only area in due course. All posts will be moderated to ensure good behaviour ! :D

Are there any internal TMBA matters?

Call me weird, but I always ran my business affairs in a wholly transparent manner, truth be told Devil be shamed and all that.

If people didn't like the contents, they could go elsewhere. In reality, people respected this approach, and stayed!

Just my humble opinion... :)

Open debate here sounds OK to me especially as non-members can see it isn't a secret organisation bent on bringing the government down. The TMBA only has one aim and that is to bring smoking back in Pubs.

Hey Guys, this is the YBW Thames Forum, NOT the TMBA website! Not everyone on this forum is a TMBA member, or wishes to be. Certain people seem to think that the YBW Thames forum and the TMBA are one and the same thing which, of course, they are not, and I would like to try and ensure the distinction.

As for internal business, of course the TMBA has internal business which is for members only - such things as subscriptions, nominations and elections for management positions etc. are not public domain matters and should be kept private to the membership.

If individual members of the TMBA choose to report on the forum with regard to open TMBA issues I cannot prevent them doing so. In the same way, members of other groups including the ATYC, are free to invite discussion on the forum.

Although only members will be able to add comment, the Viewpoint section of the TMBA website will be publicly visible so this is not a case of any denial of transparency - simply making sure that TMBA business does not cause annoyance on someone else's website/forum i.e YBW

Stickers are fine. Burgee/flag/pennant etc. would be a much more visible sign of unity at a time when it is most needed and a great signal of kindred spirits on the river.
