TK's Report on Climate Change concludes...

Re: TK\'s Report on Climate Change concludes...

Not sure you can blame the 'carbon disaster devotees' for that one. All the EA do is publish the total number of barrier closures, without explaining why.

Guess they think the difference between HW and LW closures is a bit complicated for the Big Brother nation to understand.

Kind of surprising that a scientist doesn't know about the fact that tides - and even changes in atmospheric pressure, or an onshore or offshore wind, would render your 'rockpool' observation completely invalid. Even if you had recorded the atmospheric pressure when you were a kid, the exact state of the tide to within a minute or two, the extent to which it was a spring or a neap, wind speeds and directions out at sea etc. in your youth and recreated precisely the same conditions now, which I doubt - tidal predictions aren't reliable to within an inch or two.

But it is one of the FACTS bandied about, just like filming a reporter against a backdrop of cooling towers belching steam or a summer glacier with bits falling off into the sea. Then today we are told how there will be famines and floods in the horn of Africa, that would be like in the Bible then? Then another reporter (BBC Newsnight's climate change man) on lunchtime news tells how has turned Vegan in order to do his bit!

Hysteria doesn't help anyone! I don't think we need worry about the climate killing us off, we'll all jump over the cliff soon just to avoid another catastrophe news report.

Re: TK\'s Report on Climate Change concludes...

It seems strange that you accept without question the points in your favour and ridicule all those against.

Congratulations - you've become the second person in my "kill file"

Re: TK\'s Report on Climate Change concludes...

I welcome your approbation and wonder why I don't want to kill anyone myself.
Perhaps I take a more reasonable stance on life.

Now, can you just explain to me why I seem to, as you say "accept without question the points in your favour" yet those who, for instance, "see the closing of the Thames Barrier as proof of man's culpable behaviour" are seen as being demanding of indisputable proof?

Just who is allowing the absence of facts to prove no foil to their argument?

Re: TK\'s Report on Climate Change concludes...

But that's not strictly accurate is it Ken?

The EA do make a distinction between closures to protect London from Tidal Surges and other reasons (what they call "Fluvial") - I was referring only to the Tidal surge closures.

In the first 5 years of operation the barrier was closed only 3 times for Tidal Surge - in the Last Five years it was closed 31 times for tidal surges

On the contrary the EA do distinguish between Tidal and Fluvial closures

No No No

We will all have died first because of a giant meteor or a comet or an asteroid colliding with Earth.

Re: TK\'s Report on Climate Change concludes...

Agreed, I can also remember said scientist telling us that petrol would run out by 1980. They dont really know what is going on, the whole thing is political. BUT the earth is going through a warming phase, and stopping it is like a duck trying to turn a supertanker.

Re: TK\'s Report on Climate Change concludes...

I'm convinced anyway and we'll do our bit to reduce our lifestyle emissions! We'll sell our 2.8 tdi diesel 4 x 4 and buy an old 7 litre coach and we'll all live in that to avoid the carbon footprint of heating our home and carbon emissions on the school run.

We'll cook on open fires. I've got loads of old tyres I'll cut up and use as fuel so they won't be wasted, and failing that we can always cut a few trees down. We won't waste water either, we'll make sure all our waste goes back into the rivers to maintain the levels.

We won't encourage Supermarkets as there'll always be the odd pig or chicken running around unsupervised so we can live off the land with no measurable environmental impact.

We'll encourage our government not to waste our taxes by not paying them anything - that'll learn 'em. Anyone got a garden we can park on? Must be near farms and rivers.

Re: TK\'s Report on Climate Change concludes...

But if the rainwater flowing off your bus roof goes into a surfacewater drain you'll still have to pay the sewage charge on the water rates.
