I've just watched this

My current seacocks are Bronze and Nickle plated bronze.

I am thinking about upgrading to titanium but it seams only the through hull fittings are titanium , then a Bronze ball valve would be fitted on to the titanium.

Has anyone looked into this ?

I expect the titanium wouldnt suffer from dis similar metals but what about the Bronze ball valve on top

Does the ball valve ever cause a sinking issue or is it always the through hull fitting that fails ?

Does anyone know of Bronze ever fail or is the problem just brass and stainless steel ?

I was hoping someone knowledgeable would respond but alas, so, fwiw, i will put my 2penneth in by saying that our surveyor the other day recommended we change seacock fittings to bronze as currently they are brass. Thats all i know so thought i'd post it and bring back to top :).

They seem remarkably cheap for titanium but I'm probably relating to my aerospace background there. Don't see the point in a titanium through-hull when the moving parts and the bit that actually stops the water coming in is the same old stuff though? Don't forget you'd need titanium bolts as well to get the full benefit. How about these http://www.forespar.com/marelon-marine-boat-plumbing.shtmlhttp:// as an alternative?

The problem you have is not that your sea-cocks are bronze - it's that you need to be really sure that they are the appropriate bronze alloy and not just something that's called bronze. If you had Blake's I doubt many would recommend changing them - if you've got the manufacturer's original fit "bronze" sea-cocks and they aren't Blake's (or an equally known and trusted model) then you really should from what I have read.

I am definitely not an authority though and you can't get a much more important item....

Edit: just seen this thread on the hairy string and chewing gum forum. http://www.ybw.com/forums/showthread.php?p=3150700#post3150700
