See link on YBW Home page-a sizeable number of Twitter users thought Titanic was just a movie!-scary because it makes you realise how emphemeral history can be.
I must admit when on the morning of 11th September 2001 my wife called me in from the garden I thought she was watching some new Towering Inferno movie being reviewed on Breakfast.
It actually took me a few minutes to realise that it was for real!

Not that surprised really, i am sure they will roll this out as more evidence of how ignorant the younger generation are.

What i find really amusing is that YBW filter out all our obscenities and then email everyone on their mailing list with this:

Not that I have a problem with a bit of bad language, just seems unfair.

We watched 9/11 on the TV at work, a stunned group in complete silence; afterwards someone said " it's like some trashy American film, but it's real ! "

Of course there are lots of money making theories about Titanic like brittle iron hull and swerving at the last moment being worse than a head - on collision, but it seems pretty simple to me, you don't do 20 knots among already reported icebergs...

One thing I always think understated about the Titanic tragedy is how horribly cold everyone must have been, whether they survived or not.

A friend told me how his son's pal didn't know how to use a dial type phone: he just placed a finger in the dial holes thinking it was dialling the number. As time marches on, especially at today's speed of information and communication, the recent pst can appear so far away. As an example, my kids have no idea that the country side surrounding them, was an industrial belt full of heavy engineering and mining - all gone and landscaped over in 20 years, acres and acres of industrial land returned to nature.

As you say horribly cold and it could not have happened in the way that the film depicted - quite ridiculous to think that anyone could wander around in waist deep icy water for more than two or three minutes.

It's the same sort of twitters who think Holyoaks, Neighbours, Eastenders, Coronation Street,Crossroads etc are real.

Girlfriend of eldest son (she's 17) thought the The Waltons was an early reality show with a web cam in a 1930's household
