Tips for the Nothe?

....i am quite looking forward to a truly British weekend by the seaside proper as in no boat..

Well, if no floppy wide-brimmed hat, then at least a square white hanky on the head, knotted at all four corners....

And, for when you go in for a paddle....

Come and say hello - I'm on the low camera platform closest to the water.

Curses, which I had known. I was dying to have a chat with one of the camera guys. :(

When you say "low camera platform" was that the one in the ticketed area just down from the boom camera, i.e. the one I was sitting next to?

The Nothe Tavern for a small fee is providing storage for those items too large to take into the event, big umbrellas etc.
So far they have raised over £1500 for the RNLI

last year George Collins the HM @ Ramsholt raised £3k for the R.N.L.I.. last week is was another £275 just in that week alone.
all raised from voluntary contributions for using our moorings by visitors whilst vacant.

unlike Orford who are empire building & creating a full time job where there wasnt one or the need for one, plus the cost of a £22k new boat for the job

If you were told, like I was, that you could not enter with an umbrella longer than 30cm (this was in the first week - I was there on 3rd August) you might be interested in this from the Guardian last Monday:

Security has noticeably slackened off at Weymouth. On Sunday at the sailing, everyone caught trying to enter the Nothe spectator area with an umbrella larger than 30cm was treated like a potential terrorist with an offensive weapon. After many complaints, the regulations have now been relaxed so that spectators can bring in any sized brolly as long it fits inside their bags

(The published regulations only prohibit 'large golf style umbrellas'.)

On the List of Prohibited Items displayed at the security check point camera tripods and monopods over 300mm in length are specifically mentioned as banned items (unless you are a professional photographer ). Had I read the instructions that came with the tickets I would have seen that I should have gone onto the london2012 web site to check exactly what items were excluded - naughty me for not doing so!:o http://www.london2012.com/mm/Document/Documents/General/01/25/44/06/Prohibitedandrestricteditemslists_Neutral.pdf

It would have been helpful if the list had been displayed at the Park & Ride site so that any banned items could have been left in the car.

Just out of interest my daughter had her 100ml sunscreen taken from her at Greenwich despite this being within the permitted printed allowable amount.

Hi, Yes that was me, what a shame it would have been good to have said hello.

Cracking day and one hell of a hangover !

The Finns Gatecrashed my dinner as well which was pleasant ... Rounded off the evening with a G&T on the beach watching the diving.

So what did you see on the big screen? Was it the same as the BBC webstream? Coverage of the sailing has been pretty good imho - including the bit yesterday when the poor Aussies had a WOB.
Was that where you watched the diving? Unless of course you used your laptop/dongle...

Sailing proper on the Nothe with binos and a cracking view inc the woman overboard. There was also a big screen showing the beeb feed.

The beach had two huge screens from the beeb and was fenced off well organised with toilets and folk emptying bins in seconds.

The only down side was a few members of staff moaning how the town had suffered as a result this at the same time as taking my hard earned.

Show me a seaside town that ain't suffering right now ...

We went last week. The atmosphere was great, but we did think that £55 was a bit steep just to sit on the grass! Why hadn't they cut down the trees that blocked views of the big screen - easy enough to replant afterwards.

3 out of 10 overall. :(

Yes I have my thoughts on it, I shall save it them till Tuesday...and dont even get me started on the general public dressed in security gear who think they are above the law...

Empty that bootle of water sir to 125 ml...not the 200 ml you attempted to bring in..|(the smallest I could buy and rip the label off)

No sir you are NOT allowed to take that pint of cider outside of here, (the one you paid four quid for as you told us to stay) the folk 50 ft away from you that have paid half the price ARE allowed to drink it in the street....

Part from that and the MISERABLE locals moaning about their beloved town that they believe to be empty it was amazing...Please moan some more, I am quite happy never to spend my hard earned in Weymouth again...

As I said earlier , show me a seaside town thats over flowing this year and I wil have sympathy..
