Tiny White Bugs Aboard. Psocids?

Anyone else found these aboard? I saw one or two last year but there seem to be more now. About 1mm long. White appearance unless on a light background and using camera flash, as in this picture.

They seem to fit the description of Psocids.

How did you get rid of them?

Brought in any wood to the boat? If so, they may have hitched a lift. Time to break out the 12 volt DustBuster!

You have not stated where they are located? If in a bunk/berth, they could be bed bugs, if so, soft soap slammed down on them as and when you see them captures them for disposal.

Ta for replies. They're in lockers, under things. Not soft furnishings thank goodness.

Had a positive ident on natural history museum website. They are harmless and like damp environments, and eat any food not sealed well. Live aboard boats are about perfect then.

Turns out dog flea household spray is very effective.

Can it be paper bug mites?

We had them on our old boat, like yours, they were in wardrobes, cupboards etc.

I did a post on this a while ago, Ill see if I can find it.


To get rid of them, I used 'crack and crevice bug killer' and also a felt tip pen for killing bugs. I sprayed all the joints in carpets, wardrobes etc. The stuff remains active for months and it worked!
