Looking for recommendations for suppliers of 8mm or 10mm thick tinted acrylic sheet for a fly bridge windscreen. I need a piece approx 3000mm x 500mm .
Thanks in advance.

I do t have the company to hand but i bought 10mm smoked acrylic sheet to do companionway hatch and washboards and was nearly £400. There are loads on ebay

I’ve found a couple of companies that do online quotes which come out at around £300 inc vat. My issue is that I don’t really have a feel
for what is a reasonable price to pay having never purchased any previously!

It all really depends where you are. Transporting 3m x 0.5m of 10mm acrylic aint gonna be cheap...
... And if it gets scratched in the process...

I know what you mean and as mentioned if you have a local supplier it may be cheaper to collect as at 10mm its heavy and awkward/expensive to ship. I was just under £400 for about 3 sq m but that was at start of lockdown when prices rocketed due to everyone making clear for screens

Bear in mind acrylic will craze unless it is properly annealed after machining/cutting.
Some chemicals (solvents) commonly found in cleaning materials exacerbate this considerably.

There are recent warnings on the internet that a company called MP Plastics has ceased trading. I can't be 100% certain the Anglesey company is implicated but it would be as well to check first. I hope not of course, but these are strange and difficult times.

Thanks for the update of cause I have no personally experience of the company just fount it by google.

I wasn’t aware of this and after doing some digging, came across the following information :
https://www.bayplastics.co.uk/downloads/infobrochures/Bay Info Brochures/Working with Perspex.pdf

thanks for this advice.

I may now just prepare a pattern and look for a supplier to cut and finish the bespoke item rather than cut it out myself.

I mentioned Bay Plastics in post #8. They have made several Perspex items for me, for my own boat and for customers, they have always seemed competitive and their workmanship and delivery times have been great. No connection, just a happy customer.

I always believe that dealing with some where local is better as if there are any issues they are easer to resolve.

Unless, of course, the "recommendation" relates to a company that might have gone bust.

I suspect that when the OP asked for a "recommendation" he was looking for someone who was known to provide a good job/service etc, rather than a random result from Google (which he could look up himself).

Playing policeman again. Or is it just being aggressive again ?
