Hi my tinker is loosing air during the day, ive cleaned valve seats, maybe im not putting enough in to keep valves shut, how much air should i put in please, thanks, dave.

Deflation

Sounds like you have a leak - easy to find (soapy water) and fix (hypalon patch) if on outer tube. If on inner tube then not so easy but can pour in some purpose made sealant for inflatable boats - Polymarine I think make it - try http://www.polymarine.com/
or try (excellent service from) IBS for anything to do with inflatables, valves etc

The sealant solution takes several days to ensure it is sealed - instructions on the gloop tube.

As regards how much air to put in - if you are using a conventional (manual)footpump just put in as much as you can - you can't really overinflate it as the pump will leak before the dingy. The boat needs rigidity if you are going to sail it properly - soggy does not do.

Tinkers need to be pumped very hard. However, a leak is usually dure to valves being under-tightened or to grit on the valve seat. Clean the valve with a soft toothbrush and warm water with a little washing-up liquid.

I may be wrong, but I found my old Avon, being black and Hypalon, seemed to lose pressure more quickly than a PVC Plastimo job. I think a lot of this is due to the stiffness of the PVC - it needs to be good and hard to pull out all the creases and wrinkles. Whichever, when placed in the water, it cools the air and the tubes lose a little hardness. I guess I was being lazy with the Avon which became almost unuseable when chilled, but would stay up ashore for the whole day. A diver friend says that although the required pressure sounds low, it translates into "Pump until the hose blows off the valve".
