Time zones

I guess they have to pay per view for Google.

Typing 'CET time' brought up the relevant info right there, top of the Google heap!

Surely that is easier/lazier than typing ''What does cet stand for?'' on a sailing forum? Teehee

It's what they use in Brittany so that the Bastille Day fireworks can't start until 23:15 becuase it doesn't get dark until then!

If a mate asked you that in a pub and you replied as above you wouldn't have any mates left.
A simple question, I think, requiring a non-superior answer.
So there.
Harumph

In the pub my mate wouldn't be sitting at his computer and have the option to type three characters and hit return to be provided with the answer and a detailed explanation too boot, so I'd probably tell him the answer.

If he was sitting at his computer and emailed me to ask, in the process expending far more effort and using many more key strokes than would have been required to use Google, so he could then sit and await my reply, I'd have responded in a much ruder fashion than I did here.

If he was the sort of chap who on next seeing me in the pub took heartfelt exception with me at my jibe, it's unlikey he'd be my mate in the first instance. So he'd never have asked me, I'd never have been rude to him and he'd never have taken exception. ;)

PS. I'm sorry to hear you've had a bad day

...now get over it and stop your so thereing and harumphing. :D

I have to say I'm largely with the "why didn't you Google it?" mob on this. Surely one of the under-pinnings of sailing is self-reliance? To me that implies one's instinctive first question of oneself should be "How can I best accomplish this with the means available?" rather than "Who can I ask?" If that first question offers no solutions then by all means, ask away.

To some on here, the forum IS Google...

just a pain typing on the phone while train is bouncing along
Also when i posted that i lost my eyesight.

Fair point.

It is just possible that a future generation of smart phones will have either pull out expandable keyboards, virtual keyboards projected by say laser onto the train pulldown table or suchlike....and even screens that project their image on to a larger backdrop like a wall. That would make for a killer laptop threatening bit of smart technology.

For a larff, have a google at what happens when Scotsmen try talking to their new Iphone voice recognition assistant-it is proving not very good at understanding strong regional accents!
