Just looked at yer profile, eldest 14, mmmm not that old then. So your a biker heh?
same as yours truly, last 30+ years.. Have recently slowed down to boat speed, bought the boat
Nov 2000, after wipeing out my SP1 (and nearly myself) in the June. Now just use Pacific Coast
(PC800) for trips to city.
SP1 as in Duke?
Got a Fireblade, but mainly sunny days and Sundays nowadays.
My ideal w/end would be bike down to boat, zoom around a bit, bar-by on a beach somewhere, lots to drink, all in 70-80 deg F of course !!
Always end up taking car as no side car ( on a 'Blade!!!! ) to put boaty gear.
RYA courses are arranged thru Chaz Newans Marine in putney, among other places. It might be a good idea to take one, as handling a powerboat is quiet different from a yacht. The course itself is quiet good/fun. makes for a day off work if nothing else.
You could pop it down to the Londoners apprentice just up stream of Syon house, pretty good slip way nice pub but watch the tide and if the pub's open some D/head will park across the slip way
Or Windsor by the swimming pool although you'd need a licence for there.
Four years is a long time for things to get sticky .
I'd strip and clean the fuel pump carburetter , change the diaphragms and don't think that just because you cant see hole through the material that they are fine .Diaphragms tend to harden with age or non use and they do become porous while you have the carb apart blow all jets through with compressed air .change all belts and get new spares as well .Empty engine oil and refill with flushing oil before changing filter and new oil . One good thing about doing this is then you'll know which spanners and screw drivers to keep as an onboard tool kit .Water pump impeller, again a must do put plenty of grease on so that the first start up is not too harsh .Change the oil in the out drive remember to refill it from the bottom or you'll end up with air locks. Check the engine mounts for any sign of decay or splits and any thing else rubber for that matter.
It pays to completely clean the steering joints and put new grease on .Well that's my two bob,s worth
Mick
They got a web site at www.chastheboat.co.uk or the phone number is in the yellow pages or you can go there they are right on the river at puntney embankment by the bridge, go down by the Star and Garter pub, now turned into one of those overpriced eateries. Ask for Julie she sorts out the courses.
If it's been stood 4 years you will need to replace belts, impeller pump in sterndrive, change sterndrive oil, engine oil, filters (fuel & oil). Carefuly check hoses and replace if even slightly suspect. Buy a Clymer manual for the engine & drive (brobably Alpha 1 gen I). Pull the drive and inspect the boots, bellows and shift cables, If it has been stored with the drive in the trailer position you must replace all the boots.
If you have to change all the belts and hoses ect and buy genuine parts, that should leave you about 550 to 600 of your grand. If you have to replace the boots and cable or even gimble bearing you should have enough left over to fill te tank.
(side car on blade now that would be novel) SP1 as in Honda 1000VT
Did have a terrific standard red Firestorm before that, and loved it. Kinda regreted selling original
Firestorm cos it actually had more torque that the racey version. even though less bp and top end.
Typical Sunday prior to crash meet lads at Boxhill Dorking head for coast via A29 or around the home
counties. Wrecked the SP1 up on the Lydd Airport run.
Was getting dwon to Brighton to the boat all summer with all I needed to carry in the PC800, due to its
cavenous "boot". i.e. Laptop, HH GPS HH VHF pilot books charts etc.
Got away with racing around for 30+ years so had a ggod run.
Most of energy now spent on boats, see profile.
Hey LJS - I did do it, but it was 3yrs or more ago on my 'little' boat, which I haven't used since then. You really are getting a little befuddled. Is the wind and rain getting you down?;-)
Col - nope. Tried switching tanks - no good. Will get bloke to look at it, 'cos if it's either timing belt or stuck valve, I can't fix it myself anyway. Well, maybe I could but I'm not that adventurous! Said f%$#@?* it and went to brunch after which we went to the beach to play boules with more Brits and a great white heron flew off with the little wooden ball. (cochonet). B----y cheek, what! Had to play with a very small coconut instead. Going for a snooze now................
Ahh, but thats Mr Wood and Mr Silver for you, any way your lucky really cos you got straight answers before they hijacked the thread. Par for the course, threads being hijacked, you tend to get used to it after a while.
