Does anyone know what is happening about the "Divers" bar, in Braye. We always used to call it a time machine, as walking through its door was like travelling back to 1940.

I have visited Aldeney very many times over the years, and the Divers is now closed, as the entire row of the buildings is being renovated. Does anyone know if it will reopen again? I fear that if it does, its original charm will have been lost.
We have met may "Characters" in this bar, for example an almost legless lighthouse keeper, who, half way through the evening, announced that he would have to leave, as he was on duty!!
The lady who used to run this establishment was also a real gem, with her memories of Alderney being re-habited after the war.
If anyone has any news, I would be very interested.

Last time I heard it will re-open but as a Brewers Fayre. They are putting a conservatory out over the beach on piles with a childrens play area in it.

Yes, Elfin Safety are insisting on plastic sawdust on the floor, and you have to go on a training course before using the cuspidors.

Thats great!

So when we want to remind ourselves of our summer sailing season, we can go to the nearest BF and whilst eating deep fried something and chips, we will instantly think of Alderney!

Many thanks, but I feel dissapointed; a Brewer's fayre will not be the same, might as well go to "The Moorings" a few yards up the road, (Which seems to have remained open during the renovation work).

The "Divers" was always one of our first places to visit, a "Plastic" pub will never be the same!
