Time Expired Flare Disposal

Does anyone know of somewhere accepting old flares for disposal in the Bristol Channel area? I've got two coastal flare packs that are now well out of date and need to get rid of them as they are currently stored in my garage. Thanks in advance...

Your nearest option will be WIgmore Wright/Team Marine at Penarth Marina. They will take them but they will charge around £2 per handheld and around £4 per rocket to send them for disposal.

The sign in Force4 Cardiff says the nearest place is somewhere in Milford Haven!
At the entrance to Beaulieu boat jumble, Hampshire police were taking life-ex pyrotechnics free of charge. Maybe Cardiff or Margam boat jumbles should have the same?(and wherever on English side)

That sign in F4 is, as usual, not there to be helpful so much as to deter you from asking whether they would be so kind as to arrange for disposal of the old pyros whose replacements they are keen to sell you.

Beaulieu is something of a special case re jumbles. The Cardiff one is more likely to feature shady resellers of TEPs than those offering to dispose of them!

Thanks guys, it doesn't look that easy. I'm thinking about buying one of the new LED flares and maybe asking if the chandlery will take my old flares as part of the deal. I think it is worth a try even though I'm quite doubtful!

Bonfire night - excepting parachute flares of course. Cant see an issue getting rid of handheld flares like that.

I always thought that my old flares would be "lost at sea" but I have never got round to losing them. When we let a load off down at the club one new years eve, all of them worked. So as I dont go foreign these days, I still carry all my old flares on board. New ones are silly prices.

The Milford Haven MRCC will accept tep for disposal. Phone to book an appointment though, as they won't accept them if you just turn up.

I was amazed to find that our local Gloucestershire police station accepted my tub of expired parachute flares, smokes, etc. free of charge :encouragement:
But they want to send their firearms chappie round to the house to collect the two cardboard boxes of Very cartridges I found buried in a locker when we bought our current boat.
From experience I know the Firearms/UXB types are very laid back - when I was clearing out my deceased Uncle's flat I found a hand grenande left over from his national service, and some bullets. I think the hand grenade was a training dummy but did not feel any temptation whatsoever to pull the pin and find out. They were collected and taken away without any fuss at all.
I think I would like to dispense with the pyrotechnics on the boat, I'm not even sure they have done anyone any good in recent years, but of course they are still compulsory in some places.
