Hi is there anyone able to recommend a timber merchant, preferably in the north east, who can supply good quality timber suitable for building a 38 ft mast.
Regards rachel

38' is going to be a tricky bit of wood to get moved, let alone find

Am about to embark on the same hunt also in the north east. Someone mentioned the forestry commission in Keilder and pick a tree.

there's a timber yard near hexham I've been tipped off to. their mainstay is cutting down trees and making fence posts, so was going to call in and see if they can turn anything up for us

saw a narrow boat pottering along a canal a while ago with a massive log chocked up on the roof - we joked with him that it would keep his stove fed for the winter, but it turns out he was transporting it to make a mast. so if your boatyard and sawmill are near a canal...

any help?

Capricorn Timber. They will supply selected spar timber-more expensive but cheap to deliver, or a square baulk-cheaper, but more expensive to deliver.
Alternantively, select a pole from Calders and Grandage, and they will deliver (Monkey Trousers).

I think I might love you!

emailed them, got a reply, they can probably turn a couple to the size we need, and not that mad price wise
