I’ve got that problem with the one I picked up for ten kwai (about a quid) in a street market in Beijing twenty years ago.

I think I should invest in a Tilley. I’m going to consult Bajansailor; his advice on every other aspect of sailing is first class.

For those who think they might look funny, you soon get over it. And it is a wonderful starter for a conversation when you happen to sit next to another Tilley-wearer on a sunny pub terrace in Stavanger :cool:

I only wear socks with my sandals when dining out at a better class of eatery...

The economics of Tilley replacing your hat once v. just buying a new Helios seem to favour the OR product.

That Tilley Beau Geste - above- would, on a windy day , have you looking like Dumbo the Elephant....

What I have in that department is a 25 year old Australian product, no longer produced, called an Araphat..

Similar concept but a soft material with a baseball cap sort of a front end and lots of velcro bits... aka 'touch tapes' :) .... similar to this https://globalpaddler.com.au/frillneck-hat/

Near zero windage... and you can wrap your entire head up if you are caught up in a sandstorm... also stops your honk getting burnt by sunlight reflecting off the sea.... probably not a problem in the UK....

Some years ago I passed some wonk in a marina while wearing my Helios ... 'Is that a Tilley knock off ?' says he... I guess it is... has a crown, a brim, etc., just like a Tilley....

I have started wearing baseball caps as a matter of course as my hair has got thinner. My complexion can be described as dark and working in the Middle East and Africa doesnt seem to have thrown up any melanomas

What exactly is it "we all know" about Elecglitch?

All I know about him is that he seems to be a perfectly rational human being, able to express himself clearly and with humour, whereas you on the other hand.......... :rolleyes:

I feel obliged to point out for his benefit out that I put SS/Heckler on ignore some time ago (about the time he was serving a lengthy period of 'shore leave' for one (some?) of his more offensive postings) so only get to see his contributions when someone quotes them, I can't say that I feel any sense of loss for that. Though I must say I am intrigued about what everyone knows about me, beyond the brief profile that MBY did in an article a couple of years back if anyone has made the link to me, though I seriously doubt SS has the intelligence to have so done.

By putting him 'on ignore' you are denying yourself the opportunity of a good laugh. :D

But you mustn't laugh too much or he gets upset and complains to the Moderators. Who are, no doubt, always pleased to hear from him. ;)

Yes, he tried that with me a couple of times, they seemed relativity unamused (with him). Anyway I've got footwear and other bling to polish for a bit of synchronized walking over the next two days so rather more important considerations than a waste of a perfectly good set of skin and organs.
