Oh dear, I was walking ashore and a gust of wind blew my Tilley hat off and into the water, the pathway at the edge of the water was too shear for me to have nipped over so I went looking for a long stick and my the time I’d returnedm to the same spot, my hat was halfway to nowhere! I’ve had it almost 25 years and the emotional loss is great.

Hate losing something like that, that you value. But if it's any consolation, I bought a look-a-like for £9 yesterday, after suffering from sun burn on an unexpectedly long walk along the cliff. So it need not be the end of the world.

Where in Cornwall do you get looky-likey Tillie hats? I ned one myself and that sounds like my sort of price!

My lookalike came from Millets. It has a strap to prevent inadvertent loss, a facility also available to Tilley owners I believe.

Lost my favourite sun hat 2 weeks ago in Studland Bay - perhaps the seahorses will eat it1

Not as flash as a Tilley, but quite a bit older as it dated from my first trip to the Caribbean in 1972.

If you kept the little card from inside then a replacement is half price. Worked for me when one blew overboard off Plymouth and the novice sailor detailed to watch and point while we sailed back didn’t tell anyone he didn’t have his contacts in :)

The replacement has the little card carefully removed so you have to pay full price for the third :)

My wife and I are huge fans of Tilley hats, to the following extent. We have two Border Terriers, and named the first Tilley, and when we chose to get a companion for her, a year or two later, was inevitably named Hattie!

Tilley hats are reduced to £63 in go outdoors just now...

Reduced?? reduced to 63squids?? How much are they without the reduction??

Being a tight arsed Cornishman, I have crawled naked over broken bottles and glowing embers for a fraction of that money let alone take a slide down a small cliff!

My deepest condolences.

I get all my hats from the army surplus store with a maximum price of £5 for a rather dashing "legionaries baseball hat", the one with the cloth that covers the neck and ears. A zillion times better at protecting my big jug ears from UV than the Tilly, while some say I look even more stupid than usual I prefer the lack of sunburn.
