Tiller vs Wheel

Lots of interesting comments, thanks.

The reason I asked the question, apart from wanting to collect input ......... does the presence of a tiller in a nearly new HR34 adversely affect resale value ??

Re: If you\'ve room

it's a wheel everytime.

My boats tiller and two major disadvantages are both about manouvering.

In reverse a tiller can really load up and throw the unwary about a bit.

It's easier to get a wheel to stay were you left it. So when your singlehanded mooring up in tide the rudder can be left in a chosen position while you handle the lines. This allows you to fine tune the boats attitude against the dock against a spring.

Both of these things can be achieved with tillers it just takes more fuss.

If you go for wheel steering consider putting the engine controls on the pedestal too. It's easier to manouver if you don't have to keep bending down. Compass position is often poor too. You can find your to close and it's necessary to look down. You could end up with a hump.
