As we are talking about Tillers ...
i need to make one to fit in the slot
and as there wasn't one when i got the boat[Folkboat]
I'm wondering how it would be held in as there isn't a hole in the side of the slot.
if anyone has any photos/designs of folkboat tillers,it would be appreciated.

We have a stella which I guess is the same... we just push it in, will try to remember to take a photo tonight, by the way, the back of the tiller sticks out the back of the rudder if that helps

I'll have a look at mine the next time I'm at the boat and let you know how it is set up.
 
If you are worried about it falling out, a nice brass pin through it on a lanyard is the dinghy sailors solution. Makes sure it doesnt come adrift in a capsize - but thats an unlikely scenario in a Folkboat, methinks? /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

The ash tiller in the picture in the earlier post is standard issue through and out the back with a peg to hold it. Yes there is a taper for the peg to work against. For some reason I made the taper on just part of the piece in the rudder which was more complicated to do. Chalk / carbon paper or similar helps get a decent match between the tiller and the hole in the rudder.
 
Ok thanks for the info...previous one went walkabout also hatch cover in big storm up this way 2 years ago[previous owner]
 
So if a bit of the tiller can stick out aft of the Rudder head, can't you just drill a suitable hole for a 'drop-nose pin' which will hold it in place and be instantly removable without spanners if the tiller breaks and has to be removed to shove a spare tiller in?

Looking at the picture it looks like there is a hole to put a pin through, but I've only just noticed this and we never use it /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
