Tiller pilot installation by the book

Interesting installation.
You can get extension bits for the ram so that you can mount the pilot on the coming with an insert for the mounting pin. That way you can keep the correct geometry for the installation.
As to the umbrella....where is the wheelbarrow and Naval Officer ? :)

Love it Dylan, especially the exposed battery.

What can possibly go wrong ?

I used one recently for a few days and I was amazed at the low power usage, great bit of kit.

The design team at the IPB at Oxford helped me to create the installation

I think that it should prove to be very reliable

If it works don't knock it. In fact looking at it, don't knock it!

At least you know the tiller pilot won't run down the engine or house batteries. Was a problem I had with the Hurley.

Not an easy boat to install a tiller pilot on. The line of the cockpit is very appealing but somewhat lacking in nice, protected, inboard, pilot mounting locations.

Katie L is still in lovely condition.

I think the more important question is whether that's rough shorn or planed 2x2 - and are the lashings nautical enough. :encouragement:

although the 2x2 is quite ingenious and probably a bit cheaper here is all the bits you need.

Alternatively, the tip of the ram can be unscrewed and an extension piece inserted, so that the outboard end could be mounted on Dylan's coaming in the conventional fashion.

He likes lashups, though, so I doubt he will :)

Why not look at it another way: mount the tiller locator peg below the tiller, on a drop bracket to get the tiller pilot well down into the cockpit and much easier to install? A (little) bit more weather proof as well.
