tides to get in Tollesbury

So a short thread to assist someone who wants to visit my home marina prompts remarks about what a **** place it is for eating and sailing? Seems a little ill-mannered. Not really in keeping with the spirit of the parish is it? .

So would you prefer untruths, swmbo got food poisoning.
This was taken to show the lettuce on a bed of sauce, she left most of it but it should have gone back
The marina management were made aware of the food presentation the nxt morning & were informed it was inedible .

People criticise the food at my home marina all the time. I don't think that's ill-mannered at all. Surely one reason for the forums is to share experiences, so others can perhaps avoid bad experiences?

My two pennies worth.

I have my boat on a mud berth in Tollesbury. I have around two to two and a half hours before and after high water to get in and out.
Apogee draws 1.4 metres.

I love Tollesbury.

From outside, the Cruising Club does seem to go through managers and chefs at quite a rate, but I may be wrong.
Quality of food therefore may well be variable.

The local cafe does a very good fried breakfast, and there is a truly excellent curry house in Tolleshunt D'Arcy which is a couple of miles away. (they do deliver)

+2 on the breakfasts at the cafe

As far as the Cruising Club is concerned, we've eaten there several times and throughly enjoyed the food. And we ain't dead yet either :)

As I said earlier we love visiting Tollesbury, we have always had a meal or two in the club, sometimes good sometimes less so (like many places) but haven't been poisoned yet.

The greasy spoon cafe is good, and the little tea room, whose name escapes me, is delightful serving the best fruit scones we have had anywhere. Yum Yum. :D

Although we seemed to have drifted a little off thread, Tollesbury to my mind is a beautiful spot, a lovely marina, lovely staff, lovely atmosphere. The food I've had there has always been nice and sunday roasts were always well subscribed.
I have sold 2 boats very efficiently through their autumn boat show......BUT...access would prevent me from keeping a boat there and I only draw just over a metre. And yes, lovely cafes!!

(Don't like fruit in scones!!...Plain, Tiptree (Wilkins) Little Scarlet jam, and LOADS of proper Cornish clotted cream......................)

We were based there for a year before we moved house. It's a lovely marina, surely the friendliest staff on the East Coast. Access was fine but we tend to do trips rather than day sails. The food at the clubhouse was as changeable as it comes. If I owned the place I'd lease it to a decent chef who could use it to make a name for himself as long as there was some reasonably priced family nosh.

Swimming pool is top bananas for the nippers and the walks are outstanding. It's only 'fault' is the iffy tidal access but that only bothers day sailors and you can leave your boat on a mooring and they'll pop out and bring it in for you.

So true.
I went there today (drove) during the autumn boat show...what a stunningly beautiful day......the clubhouse was open for the bar and famous Sunday Carvery, which was excellent and excellent value to boot. ShipWreck take note.
But they have new staff, a guest chef, and are planning on 7 days a week opening throughout the year......obviously listening to "Lazy Kipper"!
