Just a passing thought.
I am reminded by my good friend Proudman that 2 March 2010 will, most likely, see a Tidal Range at Avonmouth of about 14.59m. - with a ELWS Height ( ! ) of -0.11m.
That's around 48 feet 8 inches, in old money, and a whole lot of water to go charging back and forth in just 6 hrs 20-ish minutes.
Strangely, Newport - just across the way - has about 1 metre less range, but an ELWS Height ( ! ) of -0.53m, or about 20 inches below Chart Datum.
The tide will be 'overtopping' substantially at Bristol, and a fair few other places, especially if there's a westerly wind of any weight, and/or low pressure around.
Stand by your sandbags!
