According to Chimet the tide measured in at 5.6 metres at chichester harbour entrance on the 2nd Jan, My tide table said it would be 4.7, thats nearly a metre difference!!!! not so bad because its over but does it ever go under?

Tide height can be drastically affected by the air pressure and the wind. High pressure and an opposing wind in an estury for example can lower the tide. A call to the harbour master can varify the tide's progress. In the Thames Woolwich radio broadcasts the tide height at Silvrtown over the charted depth in the shipping broadcasts. You can use this with your tide prediction to work out any hold up or increase in the tide. Hope this helps
