I cannot see the point of buying a new almanac every year. Where can I get tide times from for: Dover, Cherbourg, Portsmouth and Plymouth?

Dover Harbour usually have their tide times for the current year in their marina information. I have checked myself a few days ago and they were still showing 2005 unfortunately. I keep an Almanac a few years and just print off the Dover Tide Tables as they relate to most tidal charts that I use in the Almanac. I can get all the way to the Elbe using the plus or minus on the Dover Tides.

A lot depends on how far in advance you want/need the info.........

EasyTide can be a good place to start, if it's just for a few days at a time.

If you need Cherbourg info for the year (if you use those natty little tide booklets based on HW Cherbourg) then they can be downloaded from Adlard Coles (Oops.... beaten to this one! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif)

Lavers Tidal information produce a booklet that has Dover as the main port and 99 others listed with the time differences. If you have got a previous almanac, all you need is Dover and then all the others are referenced from this. This link will take you to their website details and lists all other ports covered. It is also cheap £1.40 plus SAE.

Buy yourself "The Yachtsmans Tidal Atlas" by Michael Reeve-Fowkes. Once a year download the Cherbourg tides from A&C Black. Bob's your uncle. With Cherbourg as port of reference there is no need to worry about the UKHO getting their knickers in a twist.
Fowkes wrote specific books (Atlases) for various parts of our fair continental shores. They are extremely useful as they give tidal strength and direction at a glance.

Yes I use RF, Cherbourg is no problem, but I need Portsmouth for my home port (local sailing) and Dover and or Plymouth for secondary ports for West country sailing, if we go that direction.

Hi
This is a worldwide tide predictor and should work for the rest of our sailing careers. It is free but see the authors comments. You can download it from his site. Nice graphics and lots of details of sunrise times etc. See www.wtides.com
