When we berthed in the Tidemill, to ensure we got the earliest run down to the Ferry and out on the one tide, we would lean the keel gently against the cill just before there was enough water and just slither over as it came up. The admiral used to hate that maneuver, holding that any contact with the bottom at all was a rehearsal for a shipwreck - I guess she had something like that in mind.

Last year a British flagged Dutch barge managed to jam across the entrance lengthways - that was quite a scene too!

I wqas told the Cloggie left without paying.
Marinanaros arrived, got mast Hd lines rigged & chocked-up the bows then charged him the nights fees + labour for work done

Labour is totally fair, but a nights fees? strikes me as a bit greedy really. Maybe he was piqued at being kicked when down?

Looking closely at the picture I think about 30% of a night's fee would be fair.
