I live just North of the South Downs, behind Brighton, I am expecting my journey to the coast to be a lot quieter after the strike and none of those awful tower blocks to ruin my coastal views!

I have often wondered why these sort of events are said to produce "tidal waves". According to all the books etc that I have read the tides are said to be the periodic vertical movements of the water on the Earth's surface caused by the attractive forces of the Moon and Sun.
Can we think of a better name for these "one off" giant waves?
