I heard last night a rumour that as a result of the earthquake in Algeria a tidal wave (Tsunami?) was experienced in the Balearics causing extensive damage to numerous boats.

Can anyone corroborate this?

Re: Media poetic licence

it is true that aftershocks were felt in Menorca and majorca, I wouldn't go as far as to say tidal waves. Surges of up to two metres above and then two metres below the normal water level were recorded. The larger yachts escaped virtually untouched as they simply rose and fell (a few bumped the bottom or the pontoon but fairly gently) with the water, it was smaller craft that were closer in to the quays that suffered most (imagine a four metre tide rising and falling about five or six times in the space of half an hour) and I have heard reports of up to thirty boats lost in Mahon.

Re: 30 boats lost?!

oh, so everyone is going potty about nothing. Tsk. Anyway that'll learnem to buy little boats instead of big ones. They will all have to nip round to RB and buy a large boat each, and stop the whining.

can't find web news bout this. I used google and searched for "Broker Delerious Bonanza Tidal Wave"

Re: Media poetic licence

I saw a report on French TV which showed a small sailing cruiser which had been washed up onto a road and several smaller boats sunk.
