Tidal streams Llandudno

Sorry to post from te dark side but I am going to race at Llandudno in the future . Its a one off event but I would be very grateful if someone could point me in the direction of a detailed tidal flow prediction.

Go to your nearest Admiralty Chart Agent and have a look at the catalogue of Tidal Stream Atlases. I am not familar with your area, but you should find something if value.

It flows East on the flood and West on the ebb, lower stream near the shore.

By Llandudno I presume you mean racing in LLandudno bay with the Sailing Club ( Darts & Hobie Cats etc. ) and not further out to sea or around the Gt. Orme ?
In which case I would agree with Savageseadog.

Don't bother with the tidal atlas (NP 256) - one page spans from Devon to Scotland, so the level of detail in the 2(?) mile wide bay is nil.

Just to flesh out the other info a bit (from Ralph Morris' pilot):

"Offshore streams run East and West, rarely exceeding 1 knot, slack water coinciding with high water...." [High water is Liverpool minus about 40 minutes - MrG]

"The tidal streams between Rhyl and the Little Orme [East side of the bay - MrG] typically flow along the coast. During spring tides, the stream runs strongly off the point of the headland, forming short tide races, and a nasty sea gets up when wind and tide are opposed.

Close under the cliffs of Great Orme's Head, [West side of the Bay - MrG] both flood and ebb streams form eddies which may reach 2+ knots. In particular, an eddy sets East close under the North face of the Great Orme during the ebb."

I've never sailed dinghies there, but it definitely gets bumpy when the tide rushes around the Gt. Orme. There's a steep bank of shingle behind the beach which makes launching dodgy at high tide, as the breakers tend to dump onto this.

If the wind is SW (ish), it blows over the low land from West Shore through the town, making for very variable conditions close to shore (so I'm told).

If it is something to do with the Llandudno Sailing Club, give Gus my regards.
