From another thread:
The Tr stated "Dead 6 ft on the gauge Sir" @ 10.00z

What gauge (that the tower can see) thinks I. So I went to the tower today and asked. That one they said pointing. There's a tide gauge on my pontoon and I have never seen it before :o

Fixed to a post at the shore end of the pontoon on the right hand side when facing the river is a gauge. It apparently shows the height of water in the creek but you need to knock off a foot for the silting.

So Sailorman really had 5 ft and he draws 2 metres. They said in the tower that people like him normally get given a packet of seeds to put in the furrow :D

Oh and the gauge on the bent north cardinal post has been removed.

As long as their not Leaks :D

Is it going to be replaced? Maybe if it is it could be put back to show what the depth actually is!

It is being replaced by Maldon Council (don't hold your breath). The depth on the gauge was right - there was just too much botom in the creek:D

Was that gauge ever accurate? I always thought it was a bit off.

There was 3 ft less depth at the shallowest point than was shown on the gauge on the post - half down the withies was a high spot. They are going to dredge that bit in a couple of months. The channel is now over near the red (orange) cans or even just outside them.
