Can someone advise me whether or not it's feasible to use 'Thunderbolt Pier' as a visitor for a few hours, in order to go to the Dockyard Museum?
I always understood that the Pier is run as a 'closed-shop' moorings with no visitors normally, but I notice on the chart that it now calls itself 'Victory Marina'. If it does now take visitors, does anyone have any contact details?

according to the East Coast Pilot they do not usually accept visitors without prior bookings. Ring Victory Moorings on 07785 971797.

I have been there to look at a boat and its right inside the dockyard so an excellent spot for visiting. Let us know the answer.

If not, try Chatham Maritime - nice marina only 10 mins walk from dockyard. There's also a waiting pontoon outside they may let you use.

I would go for Chatham Maritime. Its an easy walk from there to the Dockyard museum etc. Mind you its MDL so it will not be cheap.

I enquired about visitor and permanent mooring earlier in the year by driving down through the Historic Dockyard to the Pier. There is a contact details at the entrance to the pier but I didnt take a note. It is privately owned, and the owner told me he would only take bookings with at least a weeks notice! Having sailed past on the several times in the last 2 months,..there would appear to be plenty of space. A great setting with the museum as the backdrop to the pontoon, particularly if you regularly sail with children on board.

Thanks, Selkie. I had seen the details in 'East Coast Pilot' (which seems to tally with what you were told), and I had tried to call the chap but got no reply.
Didn't want to go into Chatham Marina, too much money and too much messing about with the lock. I'll think again.
