We had a ketch and used a riding sail on the mizzen topping lift with front of the sail tied to the mast, it cut rolling and swing from 90 degrees to 35 we bought ours from Sailrite..
I thought that was a configuration normally used by sloops because they don't have a mizzen mast to hang a sail from, what was your thinking? We had a ketch and used a riding sail on the mizzen topping lift with front of the sail tied to the mast, it cut rolling and swing from 90 degrees to 35 we bought ours from Sailrite..
It takes 20 knots to get mine moving!
..... Of course there are bad ketches about but there are also terrible monohulls about.
The devoted sloop sailors on this forum probavly have never sailed a good ketch but they still have their opinion. They are entitled to their opinion of course, but its only an opinion based on prejudice not fact....
Nice ! A 120 hp ketch, if I'm not mistaken.
Wasn't that the YouTube link in post #30?Nobody's mentioned Freedom Cat wishbone ketches, someone on here has one.
Gipsy Moth IV, was a dog according to Chichester, not sure the rig was at fault though.

The designer was at fault..
So he claimed.
Wasn't there a period when the racing rules artificially favoured ketches?

If ketches are so bad, why do Perini Navi turn out superyacht ketches. The 6th largest private yacht at 70m was launched last year. It looks stunning. Once you get to larger sizes the ketches look stunning.Oh dear; here comes the personalising.
Alas, it won't support a duff argument; it makes it worse.
