I know it's a long shot but can anyone identify this throttle lever on my falcon 23, I will get a clear picture tomorrow but it's the same as the one in this picture.
Although mine has had the petrol engine replaced with a kad32 diesel, it still uses the the original throttle lever and I presume the same cables.
Or do I just need to look for any single top mounted lever, would any teleflex one do or will mine be different to teleflex?

Thanks again

Any teleflex one would do. The Morse ones have a better feel to them than the Volvos - lighter action, and more defined detents between F/N/R.

What's the problem with your current one though?

Most often it's the cables that need replacing rather than the control lever. Consider them consumable and replace every five years.

The button to take it out of gear to rev it has never worked since we got the boat. It press's in, but just doesn't do anything, there is no feel like it is even trying to engage anything, tried wd40 and oil in the mechanism.
When we got the boat surveyed when we bought it 8 years ago the marine surveyer picked up on it and put it in his report it needed replacing so I presumed it did.

Ah, ok... Possibly repairable, but I wouldn't know how.

If I had to replace my Volvo throttles I'd seriously consider the Morse ones instead. Driven a few boats with the morse (think it's the MT3?) and they are much nicer.

But at about £300 a pop (for twin engine) and two to buy (flybridge) I can't justify it until the current volvos pack up...

The cables are all the same. However suggest you actually take the control head off as I expect you will find the plunger is missing or broken. All it does is pushes the gear cable lever over so that you can operate the throttle without the gears

I did do today, the button presses in and springs back out but doesn't actually push anything, it looks a sealed unit where all the plunging should happen so can't get into it.

Sounds like the plunger is broken. Not clear from your photo how the button is held in, but there will be a way of getting it out. Otherwise lift the control out of the dash and you will see the mechanism.

The button pulls out with the lever after removing the grub screw in the lever, the plunger stays inside and when you press it in it seems like it should push something inside the sealed box in the mechanism but doesn't seem to push against anything.
The outside of the casing is a bit tatty anyway, so sounds like a good excuse to get a new one.
I can get a new unit the same as the one in the eBay link locally but have been told if it doesn't fit I can't get a refund, is there any reason why the one I linked to on eBay wouldn't fit, it's a single lever, twin cable control.

Thanks again for your help

Would this one be a direct replacement, would my existing cables fit and work ok or has anyone any other suggestions.
I can get get one of these locally and possibly fit it in the morning.

Thanks

Yes.

Just note that the base size is probably a bit smaller than the Volvo unit it replaces. Knock up an adaptor plate out of 10mm ply, and cover the ply in vinyl of the same colour as the dash. Reasonable elegant, most importantly quick and cheap.

Plan b when you have time and cash is to get a stainless steel base adaptor made.. No rush for that though :)

Thanks for your help, going by the measurements on the website I think the new one is slightly bigger, hopefully the bit that goes down below the surface will fit in the existing hole without having to cut any more out.
Will give an update when it's done.

Thanks again

Ah, ok!

I know the twin engine Morse control is smaller than the Volvo, didn't realise the single engine version was bigger!

Either way, the cables will fit straight on, and the range of motion will be directly compatible with the Volvo unit, so mechanically it's a straight swap. The Morse control is not just a fix, but an upgrade imho. Much better feel, and looks good to :)

Hope it drops in without too much surgery!

I have one set of each,Volvo and Morse.
Check you have the depth for a Morse, they are longer/more depth/body underneath.

Didn't go to plan, even though it's advertised as right hand control the lever is also on the right of the unit, this meant because of the window I wouldn't of been able to pull out the lever to rev it out of gear.
Need to take this one back now, he opened it in the shop first so it's still as sold so hopefully he will take it back.
Back to the drawing board, I can't seem to find one the same as my original or a aftermarket one the same anywhere in the uk.

The neutral position is 30 degree off set from the centre, this means the travel for reverse is much less than forward, if I turned it round it wouldn't work.
I just presumed all the handles would face the inside, it didn't even occur to me they would be on the outside.

I think you can adjust the neutral offset. Not sure of the procedure though.. Anyone know?

On the volvos you can remove the lever (whilst in neutral) and reposition the angle as you need.

My mates Ocean 42 has the neutral position (Morse MT-3) as vertical, others I've seen (like yours) are offset. It has to be user adjustable...

It's actually got a 30 degree off set from centre neutral and another position bang on centre, I presume this is the start position, the way the cam/knotch's are designed to give you these positions it can't be adjusted, even if it could it would mean the neutral would be the wrong side of the start position if that makes sense. It not designed to be swapped around.

Thanks for all your help though, I will post plan B when I find it.
