I have seen it estimated that the Titanic's less fortunate passengers would have been doing about 30mph when they hit the sea bed.

Sensational nonsense, I'd have thought. Even with gases in the lungs and gut compressed, the human body has only slight negative buoyancy, nothing like enough to propel it at 30mph. Even the bow of the ship itself only hit the bottom at an estimated 13mph, the stern section much more slowly.
