Threaded rod ?

Ahhhh! Now I understand! I'd never really thought about the halyard loads on the coachroof! My mast is deck-stepped and the turning blocks are attached to the shoe that the mast sits in so I'm lucky in that respect!

I can't quite picture your setup but it looks like the M10 rod will be in pure tension and there shouldn't be much fluctuating load on it so I guess it will be more than fine. Would a piece of stainless wire with a hook and turnbuckle on each end have been simpler?

First there is the cost of cleating 8mm wire and compatable bottlescrews. Then I would be left with the task of making some fixing method at the top and bottom.

At the deck collar I was restricted to whatever could be fixed to a single M10 thread and M10 eyebolts are not very strong.

As the standing rigging, the bottlescrews and the SSB aerial insulators have already cost me almost £1500 I was reluctant to spend any more money on rigging bits.
At the time of ordering that standing rigging I had not cut the hole for the mast in the deck or fitted the the collar so did not know the length of strop which was required.

I already had some closed body bottlescrews with a M10 thread and the A4 threaded rod was not very expensive. So, after asking the form some questions. That is the way I decided to go.

I can swege up to 6mm but have not the right gear to do 8mm.

Quite soon I will be selling off some of the many bits I have bought over the years and not used on ebay.

That should generate some cash to buy more bits.

Cheers

Iain
