what do you do with your life jackets?

leave in heap on your boat ,

store then at home folded neatly,

what do you do , and how often do you service or check them, would you check a life jacket given to you on a Friends boat, IE cylinder tight etc or would you consider it rude to do so.

I alway advise to check any jacket when expected to wear it, is this wrong?

no, if I invited you out for the day and did not know your credentials and caught you checking the lifejacket it would be one thing less for me to worry about as you are obviously familiar with the jacket and should therefore not need to be shown how to put it on.

Though, I would also expect anyone who sails a lot or owns a boat to have their own jacket and bring it anyway, I would always take mine onto someone else's craft.

I try to take mine with me, and alway Carry 2 or more life jackets in my car,
and if not sure GPS,charts and almanac. Have lost count of how many times had to dress people in life jackets or show them how to put them on .

I normally take them home, rinse in fresh if necessary, dry and inflate for 48 hours. They are then stored in the loft. Have started to check bottles more recently following comments in mags, forum etc. If some one else checks it when I hand it to them, I am all for it and would not think it an insult.

We bring our lifejackets home for the winter. But maybe this winter they will stay on board as we hope to use the boat on fine weekends. However, we have a dehumidifier running, which seems to collect a lot of water in quite a short time. On the other hand, things feel nice and dry. /forums/images/icons/smile.gif
