I want to start a list of all those companies who ignore emails. These are often otherwise fine institutions and I can't understand why they should be so lax about answering emails. Hopefully, if they ever read this, they will use the criticism to improve, so here are a few recent ones for starters:

1) Tohatsu
2) Moody spares
3) Force 4
4) Fairweather marine
5) Eco-sea

Maybe, if enough people are interested in adding to this list we can get it published (PBO, YBW?) and therefore get some attention.

I tend not to email a company unless I am addressing it to somebody specific - even that doesnt always work (some people in IPC have failed miserably to answer despite reminders from other people)

I like using the fax for an initial contact as it seems to get much better response.

Awaiting replies from/since:-
T.Norris Ltd. 19 July
Simrad (UK) Ltd 11 July
Centa Ltd 24 July
Griff Chains Ltd 9 August

DUR mentions Plastimo. I must put in a good word for them. I e-mailed Plastimo in France to ask if I could download a manual for a cooker that I bought secondhand. I received a reply within hours saying it wasn`t possible to download it but they sent me photocopies by post within 2 days. Free of charge. Can`t grumble at that.

Force 4 answered my email last week after 24hrs, I had bought a VHF bag which was way too small, my fault.

Organised return for exchange and she called me by telephone yesterday morning to confirm that I was going to get the correct item this time around.

Can't say fairer than that.

I would be glad to e-mail Plastimo for you but expect they will suggest unscrewing the cap to gain access to the valve underneath it, inserting a suitable adaptor, inflating the fender and re-fitting the cap. If, as you seem to imply, the valve is missing they will probably suggest you return it to wherever you bought it and get a replacement.

Checking this morning (22nd) I find that 455 people have viewed the post and only 18 were frustrated enough to add a name to the list. Interesting . . .

Interesting also that some people had a good response from a company that others had no response from at all. This suggests either selectivity or chance. For the purpose of our list it's irrelevant though, good responses don't rule out bad - the best companies will answer all mails.

Another point prompted by someone is this: do these companies treat emails differently to faxes, letters and phone calls, and if so, why?

Keep going guys, when the list looks finished I'll email it to PBO's Sarah Norbury (and, yes, she usually replies)!!
