the proof reader has been fired. No getting around standards here. Poor proof reader has begged for forgiveness, as family won't have any Xmas goose or pressies, but tough, his problem.
Ran out of fuel last night just as I was entering the Conwy channel (dodgy gauge honestly!) Spare 25l bunged in, but then had a crash course in bleeding filters, injectors etc.
Went up the river two weeks ago and got a large piece of chain caught in the Anchor. Tied it off then droped the anchor to free it off. Continued down river, mate was on the helm and found a shallow bit to rest the skeg on. Bit of throttle and we were free. Came through the bridges with matey boy still on the helm, bit too keen with the throttle and set a few yachties bobbing before I could rein him in a bit.
Not to mention an earlier incident when the anchor warp jammed, blowing the windlass fuses. Not funny when single handed and anchored between Deganwy and the Castle. Spring tide and blowing a hooley and boats moored in close proximity.
Rushing to get away late evening from the boat, got bow, midships and stern lines on, but didn't set any springs.
Came back to the boat the following week to find that there had been a big blow from the North - it'd made sufficient waves even in the marina for the bows to go up and bathing platform to slip down under the dock fender right where there is a metal joint. Nasty case of pontoon rash on the bathing platform right back to the bare metal. Its good as new again now, but I won't be forgetting to set springs again any time soon.
I was down at the boat this weekend. It was blowing F7 gusting F8 through the marina and the bow line was piano string tight in the gusts (wind blowing diagonally onto the bows, moored stern to) so I thought I would move forward a little, tighten up the springs and add a spring to the other side (a bit of a faff, but doable). I forgot the electric cable which had been made off to stop it falling in the water. It snapped, dangling the live end into the water
Any way, got the warps sorted, the boat sitting nicely in the middle of the berth instead of skewed across it and a lot less pressure on the bow line. Replaced the plug on what was left of the electric cable (now 2/3 of its original length) and hooked it up again to a different socket as the one it was in was not working any more. Presumably there is some kind of trip thing inside.....
The jelly fish still seemed to be happy swimming around the boat, so I guess the trip thingy was pretty efficient.
I guess it was fortunate there were no kids fishing from the shore at the moment the naked end of cable went into the water.
