This should be fun

I went to see Flare again today to have a real good look around . It seems someone has walked off with the rudder but im hoping its in a safe place . Luckly there was another Kestrel22 owner there that was more than happy for me to use his as a template .
There was timber outside the boat that i can use for templates (mainly flooring) so i put all that back inside Flare just incase i dont get down there before she is moved .
The mast is comming apart and the boom has split in two , im wondering if its worth re glueing the boom or just make a new one . One half is bowed but i think the other half will pull it round if glued up in a jig .

Another thing i found that has me baffled is this

It was hooked on where the rudder should have been , i think it's for maybe supporting the mast when down . Any ideas ?
Flare is in a pretty bad state but i'm sure i can manage it .

She looks better than I expected

That gizmo could be a sort of tiller arm thing but to be honest , you may be better off asking in PBO if nobody else pops up with an answer

I only know about the tiller arm thing cos salty john is selling them and I just had to have one /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

You will manage t of that I'm sure. Dont know what the mystery object is?? I wouldnt bother with the boom, cost more in time and materials than a new one.
You could also make a new one a bit more robust.

I'm guessing the mystery object is a mast lowering derrick.
I made one for Substitute. You attach the forestay to the end and a spare halyard to the same part and the under the bow roller so you can control the mast lowering. or raising, easily. It hinges at the tabernacle or mast step.
