This photo doesn't look genuine...

Can't see why a ship would not be anchored there. It looks like it's on either Nab Anchorage No 3 or No. 4 east of Culver Cliff/Whitecliff Bay about 3 miles off. They are there all the time.

Doesn't the light look a bit odd? There's something a bit stark and overly-defined about the ship, relative to the sea. I'm not sure the scale looks quite natural to me either.

The waves near the camera give the impression that the viewer is close to the water...but we must be at a high point, because we can see the beach above the ship, beyond it.

Both the light direction and wind direction look OK to me. I don't know the area well enough to know about whether a ship should be there.

That is south of Culver which is the white cliff, and that is a designated anchorage for large vessels. There are usually three or four tankers anchored in the area presumably like a taxi rank waiting for a fare.

Yes, the colours have been over-saturated to make it look a bit more dramatic. My home ground, and there are always a few ships anchored off Culver, as well as round the corner off St Helens.
I think he just upped contrast and light - no subtle playing with balance or hue. I await a professional opinion BUT I don't think it's a fake (as DC asked).

Thanks for the points of view, gentlemen.

I know the area quite well myself, so I can't possibly claim that a ship wouldn't or couldn't be there - it's often like a supermarket car-park.

The possibility of the image having been Photoshopped, probably explains the slightly unnatural tone I believed I could see.
