A well known forumite from the nether regions was kind enough to trek up to Bray this morning and give me a hand to investigate cooling water problems on my port engine. We disassembled the heat exchanger and found a seal at the forward end of the stack completely knackered/split/broken-up/kaput which is almost certainly the cause of water crossing over from the raw water side and invading the coolant.
No chance of getting the required part anywhere today of course so will need to wait till next week to finish the job. Doesn't help that when purchasing the bits I realised we MiGHT probably need I asked Volvo if anything else might be sensible to have handy and they said 'No'.

Love token Number 9 - the bit thats knackered

Really knackered - bits of rubber seal retrieved from around and inside coolant chamber

Glad thats on it's way to being sorted!

Worth doing the other engine is thus equipped, or it'll be going the same way soon!

This clearly demonstrates the practical tips, advice and help available on the various forums which I have found so valuable over the years. Has saved me big money!

HOW MUCH !!!!!

For those interested it amounts to about the same amount of rubber,if you were to cut a 2" section out of a pedal bike innertube..................

A while ago a kind forumite read my thread about where could I get a replacement porthole flymesh without having to pay the high prices I was being quoted.
He very kindly offered to pick up one whilst he was on a business trip to the USA.
I paid for the item over the phone and he then drove an hour or so to collect it. It was then posted off to my address on his return.
I offered to pay for any costs etc but it was declined.
If your reading this Rafiki. Thank you again.

Some skinflinty and heartless soul might just have filled that gap with a bit of cornflake packet,a fivers worth of that nice orange instant gasket or what ever spare tube of goo was lying around at the time, were it not for the fact that other more pernickity souls would spend the next boaty season lying awake at night fretting and reaching for the phone :)
