Cool it boys and girls, a lot of people are under pressure and worried about their boats and/ or moorings...
My suggestion is - just try to be kind and thoughtful, as well as informative

The whole flooding thing has been a really great example of like minded people helping each other. It is just a shame that some people have shown indifference to the difficulties being faced and made comments that show a complete lack of care and understanding. That is what has annoyed us.

I have used this forum and Facebook to keep in touch with what is happening at home while I am away. Right now I do not have a home to come back to. Facebook pages have been much more constructive.

i'm very sorry to hear that. it must be hell for you right now.
i only came here due to careless pad work and was surprised to see a thread about me as i have never been here before.
being here i found your tragic post and if there is anything i can do to help please pm me. i'm a way away but have a car.

Agree and I'm as guilty as anyone .I generally find the forum a great source of info and enjoy some of the banter
It's sometimes hard listening to daft comments when your spending most days up to your armpits in water keeping boats and property safe.

Anything I can do to help Gavi ? I'm only down the road and have an empty van if you need stuff moving .

That is a very kind offer Captain. I think we will be ok - the local community is being superb. But the offer is noted as vans can be useful...

Temporary accommodation within reach of schools and work is a first priority. Photograph absolutely everything for insurance purposes (if you have insurance). Don't attempt to live in a drying out house. People die from the infections and stress. Find a builder you can trust or ensure people sent in by insurers are doing a good job first time around. You want to return home as soon as possible. Every part of the house moves. Staircases float. Concrete floors move. Wooden floors move. Damp courses can be compromised. There are plenty of cowboys offering drying services which are a complete fraud, even though the insurance company may have sent them. Just remember that you're the most valuable thing you own, so look after yourself and your family.

I have an estate car and can't work at the moment due to river levels, if anyone needs a hand or wants a boat checked on if you are a distance away please let me know.

I'm down to the Hamble tomorrow if anyone wants their rig looked at. I'm at the Warsash end as supposed to the Burseldon end. But if you're really worried let me know and me and the intrepid Avon will try and get down for a look. PM me.

I must say as a newbie to the forum I find some here to be - shall we say - a bit out of order. If someone's boat sinks you don't gloat - you really don't.
Next time it could be you - and, you could be on it at the time.

We'll all come to your aid if you put it out on Ch 16 of course, that's the way of it but, take it easy. Think before you post; What if this was me?

Your kind offer would probably generate more interest on a general forum like Scuttlebutt, rather than the Thames Forum.
