This Dont happen very Often

£450. Half a days work. I do all my own servicing, can’t see why that list shot take a professional any longer than 4 hours.

Do professionals near you have four arms and the ability to pluck bullets from the air?

Did you see the bit about anitifouling the leg and the transom shield as well?

Yeah, no. Even at a optimistic budget no way you can squeeze that into 4 hours. DOnt forget none of these run immediately consecutively either. Just getting about with tools eats time

1) Fit the Anodes (supplied by me) and refit repaired Duo Prop (Repair previously paid for) - 30 minutes
2) Antifoul the Whole leg and transom shield - clean and prep 1.5 hr. Paint 2 coats 1.5 hr
3)Change the Air filter
4) Changed the primary fuel filter
5) Changed the secondary Fuel filter - combined 30min
6) Changed the impeller - 30 min
7) Cleaned the raw water intake and strainer - depends on fouling and hydraulic oil cooler - up to 30 min
8) Oiled/greased the control linkages - 1 hr
9) Checked a whole host of things on the engine - all reported ok - 1 hr
10) Ran up engine to warm and checked all alarm functions - 40 minute wait right there
11) Checked alternator output -
12) Checked for any leaks (None found)
13) Changed the engine oil - 2 hr - go on. You sit there with an Pela pump and less that hot oil and see how long it takes.
14) Changed the Oil filter- 30min - try not spilling it and clean up ops
15) Checked the tappet clearances - 1 hr
16) Checked all electrical connections - this is where is gets as long as string - 1 day
17) Checked the condition of the engine mounts - ALL ok

I am still interested to know how the engine was serviced with the boat ashore, or alternatively the leg was painted with the boat in the water :) .

To be honest it would never have occurred to me to ask an engineer to paint. That can’t be the cheapest way

Most of Bigplumbs work has to be on the outdrive. To service, clean, prep and a few coats of af must take 3-4 hours.

I am about to book an engineer for my boats annual service but having recently replaced all 4 fuel filters and checked the air filters myself, it felt quite a simple job.
As would changing the oil and impellers.
What I am expecting to pay for though is his expertise in spotting possible faults. So with some items already fitted, a checking over of the engines and then the legs fully serviced should reduce the cost a little.

Dennis, get an outboard!

My services comprises:- Change Leg oil, engine oil, oil filter, check anodes, serpentine belt. Under £100 and 2 hrs of my precious time.

You know it makes sense....

So here you go......: Firstly the boat was out of the water and the bellows had been done earlier in the year.

This boat is on the Norfolk Broads where there are many many boats and many of them are owned by people who are of very modest income and I think the prices charged by boat companies kind of reflect this.

You might have guessed from the title that I was presently surprised at the price and needless to say if this is the same in future years I will be hanging up my spanners with regard to this boat.

So without further waffle the total bill for all that lot including VAT was...................................... £361.73................... Beat that if you can

If only I could find a boat as good as the sealine S24 with an outboard I think I would....... You of course have one but they aint easy to find :)

is there nothing to service on the leg/

Yes rather like an outboard. plus bellows etc. That had been done earlier in the year before the dreaded lock down. The work to which this invoice relates was done in August which is when an just before she was put back in

Boat lifted out Nov 2019.............. leg removed and worked on off boat..............Leg put back on with new bellows etc...... Boat still on hard.

Lock down hit boat sat nicely drying out for all the best parts of the year........ August leg antifouled etc and boat put back in.

Engine service carried out on water... I tested it 3 weeks ago all seemed very good. So far used her only once :( Been out on my other smaller boats several times so sort of feel that given the year we have done alright boating wise. As the S24 IS on the Norfolk Broads will use her a bit in winter
