Were out for a sail today (Easter Monday).
Just as we were about to head for home, a Belgian Navy ship passed by our mooring.
E-mailed them a picture.

A couple of hours later, they sent me a picture back. :encouragement:

Current CO turned out to be a class mate of mine - hence probably explains the prompt return picture.

Saw them pass Pin Mill on Friday when I was getting ready to slip. Had I been underway I would have tested their ability to return a dip!

May not be every day but certainly every 18 years! This one - the Wandalaar (not spelt right I know) was a tiny speck London way when I had just crossed the SW Sunk - gave us one very long toot on its horn which translated as 'sod off sailing boat, I'm travelling very fast in a narrow channel and not stopping'. Although you can't see it from the photos, the wash was difficult to deal with.

From what I can see, it looks like she was on GT (gas turbine).
This would mean she was at least doing 22kts.
You interpreted the long blast of her horn correctly.

She was certainly shifting. She was literally a black dot on the horizon and whoosh she was past us. The fan-tail whatever was enormous and we stood on our bum. Was glad we had come off the shallow stuff.
