This advert caught my eye ...

What do you reckon the box on the port hand side is for. Is it so you can stand up inside when using the heads?

An offer and condition that I would only take on if I knew the person wanting to be taken out for a sail.

It sounds most unappealing to me. "Give me a quid and I'll let you maintain my boat for me".

Err, no, more like thus, for a minimal payment I will pass on my boat to you which requires repairs and maintenance and upkeep before being use able but as a condition of sale I require to be able to have some use of it when its use able again.

Which of those it is, will be defined in the mind of the seller, something which the purchaser has no control over. So if I know the seller well I would take a view on it. If the seller was a stranger to me, I would much rather spend a bit more money and have the boat free of conditions.

Yeah, that's basically what I said, thought I missed out the bit about the lucky (sic) purchaser (sic) having to restore the boat as well as maintain it,

I don't think it much to ask for the odd go out on a boat donated more or less for free, though I'd want to be present when the previous owner was on, not just let them go off on her.

I have a soft spot for Mystics as this was the first boat I ever sailed, but I have to say I'd be very wary of the ply construction by now.

The one I knew had a ballast shoe ( don't think it was a whole keel ) fall off at the mooring, that was decades ago.

My chum's was built by Whites of Cowes and had a Seagull of some kind; I'd count on a passage speed under sail of 3-4 knots, less VMG to windward...

Very pretty boat though and I remember the interior was to a pretty high standard of workmanship.
