Due to lack of energy re health problems (hopefully to be resolved next year) & the desire to escape the uncertainty of coastal weather, we are thinking about locating somewhere a little less taxing. We also like the thames & London, or at least parts of it. Boat is 43ft sports cruiser capable of 38 knts. What would be the best marina's (Penton Hook looks OK) & would it harm the boat to sit still / chug around on tick-over for a couple of years. Any other thoughts ? Thanks.

For you and knowing the boat and assuming where you live anywhere near Windsor ish and off the M25 would be good. Penton is prob bang on for both road and ease in getting to the tideway. You really do have the best of both worlds there. And if you have kids they can nip across to Thorpe Park.

To add plenty of serious horse power pootling up and down.

PH would seem to be a good spot for you. Not quite sure what Richards last sentence actually means but there are plenty of over powered boats on the
Thames and they appear to do ok. Would suggest at the minimum an annual blast out beyond the barrier to clear the carbon build up.

Sorry it means just that, lots of large boats with big engines at home on the Thames. Was in a hurry !

In my current health going upstairs more than once can be an effort, depending on lots of things. Am OK with marina locks but have heard horror stories about the upper Thames. St Kats, Chatham etc no problem, or are they more hard work ?

All locks are manned ( within hours ) and every thing happens at 2mph so there is no need to rush or move quickly. If you can do tidal locks the rest are walk in the park. You can handle most lines from the helm.
