Thinking of Costa Concordia.......

Dunno. What are the depths like?

OK in good vis I would have thought.

It was no problem in a Westerly Berwick. Tides run pretty fast though!

....is this a sensible route for a ferry - Brittany Ferries, Pont Aven - Santander to Plymouth?? Speed down from 22kts to 12kts, then back up to 22kts.

We did that trip on that boat a couple of years ago, on our way back from the Dominican Republic during the ash cloud fiasco. It was a perfect ferry trip and, incidentally, not a bad boat.

It is funny you voice this because about 4 weeks ago we sailed the exact route at 9 knots. It is ansafe route and they have been doing it for years.

On a Condor ferry that hit a fishing boat at 40 knots in fog.. two dead
Perhaps the skipper was being cautious, unlike Mr Schittino, who was apparently relying on the "hand of God"

Another AIS track, the Cap Finistere en route to Bilbao from Portsmouth last night, confirming this to be the normal route.

And then went close in to Le Conquet . Heading for the Raz de Sein ??

Look at the track of Cap Finistere?

I was concerned when I went that way to Camaret!

It is very interesting to see these passenger vessels tracks, as it gives a good indication of the "water" available.

I wonder how much time it shaves off their passage time?
