Think of a name !

how about Westward Ho! Go West or Manifest Destiny.......

kuroshio or black tide (japanese westerly current)

or horse latitude (the area of little breeze sailors had to navigate through to get to the westerlies, some threw horses overboard in order to reduce weight)

I can't help you with the name, but as we started our cruising in a Cirrus (new, in 1971)I'd like to wish you lots of fun with her. I remember her with great affection as she sailed very well, steady on the helm and quite fast for her size, and with a proper bulkhead and door to the heads. Sadly, our children grew out of the dinette.
 
Well...as boats are supposed to be "ladies" and always referred to as "she" I've always thought that neutral or masculine-sounding names just don't fit. So why not "Lady" or "Miss" or "Maid of" something?

And don't forget, the longer the name, the more expensive the lettering on both Dodgers becomes!! :eek:

I was thinking of "Mister Colourful" for my yacht, So you can always have Mister Colourful Two". :p

After literally loads of people telling me how unlucky it is to change the name and considering the boat has been named that since forever i think i'm going to grin and bare it and not bother, it seems very unlucky to change. and also expensive as the name is also emblazened on them canvas splash guards that run down the sides of the cockpit.

i would like to say though whom ever named it "Whizzbelle" needs bloody good crack round the ear !:(
 
I saw a boat recently (I am embarrassed to say where) that was caled "The Angels Share". Which I thought was nice/interesting. The lack of an apostrophe raised a discussion that lasted 20 minutes and concluded that it was perfectly grammatical, as would have been angel's and angels' but all meaning quite different things.

Oh the miles just fly by on a boat!!!

if you are superstitious - it's fine as long as you make the suitable moves to appease the sea. for example, writing the new name on a piece of paper and sailing the boat over this. do not keep any paperwork with the old name on the boat. rename the ship by throwing some suitable beverage over the bow.

it's also considered unlucky to have a hull that is any colour that is found in the sea but there are plenty of blue boats happily sailing around.
