Think I upset a yachtie is this a crime??

No I did not. I said most mobo owners were. And to clarify that further anything between 23 and 35 foot are the worst offenders for this. It's like they have a chip on their shoulder and have to show off in small man syndrome. If you drag a wake through my moorings trust me I will not be shy to tell you exactly what type of cretin you are, but will bend over backwards to help you any way I can if you show equal consideration. If that hurts your feelings dont drag a wake in congested areas. It's not big.

Any one else been looking for a picture of a black pot and kettle to post

For goodness sake Bruce get of your high horse

Obviously not "a crime" and others here have expressed their views from all sides and perspectives.

I recall an incident a few years ago when I was passing a river cruiser in our marina when I was in our 2.75m RIB with a 4 HP outboard and three up so no greyhound and we were well within the 4 knot limit. The owner of the river boat waved and shouted about wash which initially annoyed me but on reflection I thought his point might be valid so I moored up and walked back to apologise. This completely diffused the situation and he ended up apologising for shouting and it was really because someone else had caused him to roll around that he had taken to his course of conduct.

As is so often the case if you accept you might have upset someone and offer an apology then it is often not as bad as it seems.

However all sympathy to those posting on this thread who have been injured or suffered damage to their boats through wash related incidents.

I sail an 18ft yacht which is very light and very tippy. If I am on a swinging mooring, at anchor or in motion I don't care what wash any boats make in my vicinity. I have frequently sailed in much bigger waves than those made by motor boats, and if my boat couldn't handle it I would have bought the wrong boat. Yes I may have to hang on a little tighter than usual - but it's not something I bother about.

Yep, you said that on a forum for motor boaters, ergo, you said that about most people on the forum.

My boat is 28ft, so you have now just compounded the fact when it comes to me and others on here with boats in the size you mention. I think it's time you took up golf.

Wow just wow.
This doesn't need to get heated.
I only said I passed a yachtie at a lower speed than the limit with only a small amount of wash.
He was a little flustered but I did mention that a little earlier a mobo had passed him at speed with wash.
My actions on that day were not to tear arse about - don't need to there's a ski zone further down the river where I can do that.

As for the small man syndrome -there's no need to stoop that low with a comment like that and you can't judge someone you have never met.

As a friend of Bruce , I cannot condone his comments ,especially the ones from the marinas as the marinas are sea side of his mooring and there is no where to go past his mooring only a place for the wakeboard guys and jet skis ,so maybe he is causing his own wake after all that mallbeck ,so yes we all have misjudged our speed at times and be more polite to each other ,unless you know the peeps can take piss take ,have a great season .seastoke ps qwakers did a massive wake when he saw me n Bruce on anchor ,but we all know he is a knob ps how are you qwak

Jon and Michie, the fact you have come onto the forum looking for comment demonstrates the situation was on your mind and thus you can only be considerate people in my book.

A single outdrive can be a tricky beast so do the best you can in the conditions you have whether that's at 4 knots or 6! Most times you will upset no one, occasionally a raised hand. Such is life for us all.

A drunk raggie threw up on my deck whilst stumbling across my boat a few weeks ago. Do I consider all raggies to be inconsiderate drunks......of course not. Next day a mobo made "gentle" contact with 5 boats whilst entering our tight marina. Swings and roundabouts:):):)

I find people are super friendly. Almost every boat I pass waves at me vigorously. I always try and wave back but it's hard at 20 knots...............joke :)

I think that is a bit harsh but am appalled by the OPs idea that as long as he's within the speed limit it's fine. I imagine he drives at 19.9 mph past schools and weaves between parents crossing the road as he has chosen to buy a car that won't steer at anything less, except when parking of course when steering magically works.
I was describing the conditions and that I was well below the speed limit as I was concentrating on a number of factors I.e depth speed other users and berthed vessels ahead of me.
As for passing schools weaving in between parents??? I spend most of of my life at sea half of it at work the other at my boat to get away from the cretins in society.
Suggest you read all that I posted earlier to get a full understanding of the situation that occurred.

Thank you farsco - we wave at all vessels that pass by us and 99% of the time we get a response of the same nature.

But surely, in Southampton Water you are subject to the totally legal wash of mobos travelling at speed, including of course the Harbour Masters launch.. Then of course, there's the Red Jet high speed cats.......!

Yes but, you can see them a long way off. Also, on a busy Saturday, right at the Hamble entrance, you will find an almost constant stream of mobos opening up & causing larger than normal wake while building up to being on the plane. What I am saying is that if you think about how to avoid it, in this case just simply moving a few hundred yards up Southampton water, can make life a lot easier. Put another way, a bit of self-help can go a long way to avoiding predictable problems.

Oh and yes, on Paean we always wave and smile to everyone who comes by.

If you are his friend perhaps you might think about speaking to him about the abusive way he speaks to people on here and indeed other forums and even suggest he comes on and offers some apologies to the people he has been abusive to

Up to you of course

Well said.

I had a very disturbing incident with a paddle boarder just outside Bembridge on Sunday. I was on a kayak. It was quite clear that this said paddle boarder had no previous experience yet within a few minutes was standing up and making a "clever face". Well just imagine my rage, on the most beautiful day this year, totally uncalled for. It soon became apparent though that even though she could stand up she was limited in her ability to manoeuvre in a safe seaman like manner and shouted at me to get out of the way and if I didn't she would go overboard and it "wouldn't be funny" this incensed me even more as quite clearly, it would be. We then swapped craft and I promptly fell in and yep you guessed this WAS funny. I immediately re took possession of the kayak and she back on the paddle board, clever face reinstated. I the distance I could see the fast ferry approaching Portsmouth and remembered the effect in Priory Bay the previous (gorgeous) day. What happened next was definitely funny. We then had an ice cream. Nothing could have spoilt that day.

I don't know him but as a raggie would like to apologise for his comments. Boating is meant to be a pleasure activity, let's try to keep it that way and have fun together.

Damn my slow typing, I've been rubberducked!

Life is too short, this is supposed to be our pastime, a place we can go & relax, leave the stress of life behind us.
Some should lighten up a little.

Ah, but some of take our stress free pastimes extremely seriously....

Anyway, as a raggie who sailed an engineless keelboat out of and back into the Hamble on Sunday I'd like to thank all of the powered boats, some with masts, some with good looking wives, who without exception made sensible allowance for us on a very busy afternoon.
