My weeks sailing was excellent up to the time I returned to my mooring on the Orwell. My old ( and I mean old ) beloved Tinker Tramp dinghy was not attached to my swinging mooring buoy. Some thieving b*****d had nicked it.

So beware leave nothing behind when you leave your mooring, I thought such an old dinghy would be safe. I don't know if there is a local boat jumble coming up but if you see a faded yellow and red Tinker for sale with Nuaka on both sponsons then you will know it's stolen goods. My colleague on the adjacent mooring had his very old and knackered outboard pinched about 3 weeks ago.

With the aid of the victim support scheme offered when I called the old bill I may just get over it!!!

Sorry to hear it. I had my mooring at Westcliff nicked some years ago. I went round in circles saying "it must be here, it must be here" but it wasn't.

Boat jumble and small craft sale at Battlesbridge 6th Sept.

Unusual for stuff to be nicked in the Orwell, especially of an old dinghy on a mooring.

Have you asked about to see if the line broke/came off and she has drifted somewhere?

Bugger if it has been nicked, but I can think of much better things to nick on the Orwell.

I wonder just how secure all our boats really are. How many of the locks we use are really fit fir purpose - do we all use locks ? - Do we lock tenders or boats for that matter to moorings ?. It's a sad thing to think about. I hope you get it sorted.

Good news

Not a case of bowlinitis then ?? :-)

Round turn and many, many half hitches has never let me down before, so I think unlikely it has come adrift of its' own accord.

However I have just received a phone call, the dinghy has been found above the Orwell bridge, it was tucked up behind the bridge upside down. A very decent local fisherman found it, saw the RHYC sticker and gave the club a call.

He said the dinghy was upside down on the mud. So given the fact I know it was securely attached to the mooring and the dinghy has turned over, which even with the high winds of thursday a Tinker with it's thick heavy wooden floor would seem improbable without helping hands. I am still of a mind there are thieving scrotes about that decided my dinghy was too tatty and defaced to sell............. or maybe I have egg on my face and should find a different way of securing it, any suggestions?:D

Sadly not that unusual, there are a few (known) toerags about.

I had my outboard and anchor stolen from my RHOD a few years ago. Never bothered replacing the o/b as I was sure that the villain would be back.

There was a call from the coastguard on Thursday (I think) saying a dinghy had been found somewhere near Harwich with oars and outboard.

Was that yours? Or does anyone know the end of that story?

No mine has been found by a local fisherman tucked up behind the Orwell bridge, he kindly contacted me to return it.
